Manchester United 2 - FC Barcelona 1

The game between the FC Barcelona and Manchester United at FedEx field in Landover was spectacular in every sense of the word. At 91,704 seats, the stadium was full to capacity. The ticket prices for the game ranged anywhere from $40 to $175. It was televised worldwide on ESPN.

Past Challenges

FC Barcelona is the reigning Club Champion team in Europe. Manchester United was last team FC Barcelona had to beat in order to get this 2011 title. In a game, that was considered one of the best games of the century, was seen by millions around the world. Barcelona with its number one play-maker and goals-scorer Messi, won that championship game by the score of 3 to 1 against Man United. Wayne Rooney was the goal-scorer for Man united.

New Opportunity

This time, on US soil, it was an opportunity for Man United to redeem itself against the reigning European Club Champ, Barcelona. Man United did it with class and style by winning this one; even it’s a friendly between these two rivals. It’s in a sense a moral boost for the young and coming players of Man United, to make them understand that no club team was invincible, even when they were considered the reigning champ.

Barcelona, despite its loss, showcased a series of ball handling and passing which was the make-up of their being the European Club Champ. The team did it without its outstanding play-maker, Messi, the Argentinean. The players kept the ball on the ground. They dominated the ball game in every way against Man United. In a few breakaway, Man United scored both of its two goals against Barcelona.

Record of Achievement

Manchester United, as the number one team in the English Premier League, will begin its season with some excellent record of achievement. The team has won every game that it has played so far in America. Here is a list of its winning streak:

Man United 4 - New England Revolution 1

Man United 7 - Seattle Sounders 0

Man United 3 - Chicago Fire 1

Man United 1 - LA Galaxy 1 (pk 7-6)

Man United 4 - MLS All Stars 0

Man United 2 - FC Barcelona 1

Lessons for MLS

Every team in Major League Soccer (MLS) should have learned the best lessons that theses two teams had to offer in their visit in the states. Man United and Barcelona maintained total control and possession of the ball on the ground when they were playing. Their passing and handling were very accurate and they seemed to understand and communicate well with one another. They maintained their coolness and playfulness throughout the game. It was all and all total soccer at its best.

This friendly between Manchester United and Barcelona was a victory for the future of the game of Soccer in America.

I think any team in the world can learn from Barcelona. Not only do they win games (usually) but they do it in a stylish way. The way the maintain possession and pass with such precision is a pleasure to watch.

Barcelona, like many top teams in the world, spend tremendous amount Euro or $ (if you will) to bring together the best players in the world for the sole purpose of creating a superpower football club. The end result, as you know, is what you just say here in your comment.
